Remembering Frank Joseph Grella

December 1, 2010

President of Hospitality and Service Trades Union Local 261

Frank spent most of his working life championing for the workers in the hospitality and service industry. He was a strong unionist who believed in equal rights and fair play. Frank was a founder of the Hospitality & Service Trades Union, Local 261 and currently held the office of President, a position in which he took extreme pride. 81 years of age, Frank passed away at the Queensway Carleton hospital on Thursday, November 18, 2010, surrounded by his family.

Frank is the father of Karen Grella, Financial Secretary and Business Manager of HSTU Local 261, and International Vice President, UNITE HERE. "Frank Grella was a labour leader for over fifty rough-and-tumble years," said Nick Worhaug, Canadian Director of UNITE HERE. "The foundation of his long leadership was the fact that he was always in tune with the wishes of his local membership. He will be sorely missed."
