The Hospitality Worker's Training Centre in the news!
March 30, 2015
On March 27, 2015 the Toronto Star published a great piece highlighting the success of the Hospitality Worker’s Training Centre, a Toronto-based non-profit organization that provides hands-on, relevant training and programs for hospitality and hotel workers. The Hospitality Worker’s Training Centre created as a partnership between UNITE HERE Local 75 and major hotels in Toronto.
As the Star points out, “The centre’s symbiotic relationship with the hospitality industry lets employers take the lead in designing three-week intensive training programs to maximize effectiveness. The result, so far, is impressive: around 300 new and existing workers are benefitting a year, and the centre boasts an 80 per cent job placement rate for new entrants into the hospitality industry. The initiative has garnered 50 per cent savings on recruitment and training for employers, and has a retention rate at one year of 70 per cent, reducing turnover costs.”
Congratulations to our partners at the Hospitality Worker’s Training Centre on the great coverage! And a special thanks to our employer-partners, especially Kevin Porter, GM of the Don Valley Hotel and Suites.
